    Proposed FTC policy statement on section 5 deception analysis for marketed AI systems; comments due July 31, 2026.

    The Federal Trade Commission publishes a proposed policy statement on suppressing accuracy in AI systems on July 7, 2026. The statement explains section 5 deception principles for marketed AI systems and cites the DoNotPay consent order as an example involving accuracy or efficacy claims for a chatbot promoted as replacing a human lawyer.
