What the document requires

  • Nothing in the directive prohibits appropriate use of AI; the onus is on the filer for accuracy, authenticity and reliability.
  • Counsel and self-represented litigants are responsible for all information, authorities and analysis in written and oral submissions; reliance on AI does not diminish that duty.
  • AI-generated, summarised or cited legal material must be independently verified against official court or legislative sites, recognised commercial publishers, or CanLII.
  • Verification must confirm that citations correspond to real authorities, quotations are accurate and AI summaries reflect the source.
  • Unverified or fabricated authorities may attract cost consequences or other sanctions; blind reliance on AI is inconsistent with professional competence.
