From 27 October 2025 the Utah Judicial Council operates an allow-list policy for generative AI in court-related work and on court-owned devices. Eight named tools are expressly permitted and any AI tool not expressly permitted is prohibited, giving Utah one of the most restrictive US state judiciary AI postures.

What the document requires

  • Applies to generative AI used for court-related work or on court-owned devices from 27 October 2025
  • Eight tools are expressly permitted: Adobe Firefly, ChatGPT, Claude.ai (Beta), Gemini Pro, Microsoft Copilot, NotebookLM, Webex Cisco AI Assistant and Westlaw
  • Any AI tool not expressly permitted in the interim rules is prohibited
