Practice note GPN-AI, issued by the Federal Court of Australia on 16 April 2026, sets the court's expectations of all participants who use generative AI in proceedings. Practitioners and parties remain responsible for verifying AI-assisted content, must be able to explain how AI was used if asked, and the court may make orders regulating AI use in a particular proceeding.

What the document requires
- Parties and practitioners are responsible for the accuracy of any AI-assisted material filed.
- The court may direct a party to disclose whether and how generative AI was used.
- The court may make case-specific orders limiting or conditioning AI use.
- Affidavit and expert evidence must reflect the deponent's own knowledge and opinion.
