Issued by Chief Justice Bowskill on 24 September 2025, this practice direction responds to generative AI by requiring every written submission to name the individual person responsible for its contents. Naming oneself certifies that all references have been verified and that the document reflects the practitioner's own professional judgment.

What the document requires

  • Written submissions must name the responsible person or persons at the end of the document; naming a firm is not sufficient.
  • The person making oral submissions is the responsible person for those submissions and also for the written submissions.
  • The responsible person must verify the accuracy and relevance of all references to legislation, authorities and other sources.
  • Practitioners responsible for submissions containing non-existent material may be referred to the Legal Services Commissioner or required to show cause against a personal costs order.
  • Self-represented litigants must check references against AustLII, Queensland Judgments and the official legislation sites; reliance on fake material may cause an adjournment and adverse costs.
  • Expressly cites Ayinde v Haringey [2025] EWHC 1383 at [5] and the Queensland Law Society's AI guidance statement.
