The SRA's Effective Supervision guidance for solicitors and firms in England and Wales gained dedicated AI sections in June 2026. Supervisors are treated as accountable for AI-assisted work by staff and must have systems for supervising matters where AI is used. The 17 August 2026 warning notice on AI misuse cross-refers to it.

What the document requires

Supervisors remain accountable for work product produced with AI assistance by the people they supervise.
Firms need systems that let supervisors see how AI is being used on matters.
Junior staff and support staff using AI tools must be supervised in the same way as any other delegated work.
Referenced as a companion document in the SRA warning notice on misuse of AI.
