Guidelines issued by the Hong Kong Judiciary in July 2024 for judges, judicial officers and support staff on generative AI. Using generative AI for legal analysis or reasoning is not recommended, administrative uses are permitted, confidential case information must not be entered into public tools, and any output must be verified. Sectoral guidelines for the legal profession are under consultation.

What the document requires

  • Generative AI for legal analysis, research or reasoning in judicial work is not recommended.
  • Administrative and drafting assistance uses are permitted with human review.
  • Confidential or sensitive case material must not be entered into public tools.
  • Judicial officers remain responsible for all output used.
