What the document requires

  • A lawyer must understand the benefits and risks of using generative AI
  • A lawyer must check all work product for accuracy and must not defer to the judgment of generative AI
  • When in doubt, do not enter confidential or non-public information into a generative AI tool
  • A lawyer billing hourly may not bill clients for time saved by using AI
  • Where AI is used for client intake, prospective clients must be told they are communicating with an AI program
  • Client disclosure is required where the client would need to know about the AI use to make an informed decision
