Ireland's Regulation of Artificial Intelligence Act 2026, enacted 21 July 2026, gives national effect to the EU AI Act and commences by ministerial order; none was found on 11 September 2026. It provides for Oifig IS na hÉireann as single point of contact, coordination of competent authorities, an AI register, sandboxes, complaint routing and sanctions.

What the document requires

  • Section 8 establishes Oifig IS na hÉireann as a statutory body to perform functions under the Act.
  • Section 9 requires the Office to coordinate competent authorities, support joint enforcement, promote AI literacy and provide expertise.
  • Section 42 designates the Office as the single point of contact for Article 70(2) of the EU AI Act.
  • Section 43 requires an AI register covering prohibited practices, serious high-risk-system incidents and other reportable AI matters.
  • Section 46 allows the Office to establish one or more AI regulatory sandboxes under Article 57.
  • Section 61 creates a complaint route to market-surveillance authorities or the Office for alleged EU AI Act infringements.
  • Sections 67–127 set supervision, investigation, administrative sanctions, offences, privilege and penalty provisions.
