The Law Society of Ireland's generative AI guidelines for solicitors, at version 4 dated 12 November 2025. They identify suitable and unsuitable uses, require client confidentiality to be protected when information is entered into tools, call for transparency with clients, require verification of output, and address the AI literacy duty in Article 4 of the EU AI Act.

What the document requires

Lists suitable and unsuitable uses of generative AI in solicitors' practice.
Client confidential information must not be entered into tools without adequate safeguards.
Solicitors should be transparent with clients about material AI use.
Firms must address the EU AI Act Article 4 AI literacy obligation for staff.
All output must be verified; the solicitor remains responsible.
