Germany's KI-MIG implements the EU AI Act nationally from 29 July 2026. It designates the Bundesnetzagentur as the default market-surveillance authority and single point of contact, creates an independent AI market-surveillance chamber for listed high-risk systems including justice-related uses, establishes complaint and coordination functions, and requires at least one AI regulatory sandbox.

What the document requires

  • § 1 states that KI-MIG implements Regulation (EU) 2024/1689, designates competent authorities, supports innovation and sets fines.
  • § 2(1) makes the Bundesnetzagentur the market-surveillance authority unless KI-MIG provides otherwise.
