The SRA's compliance tips set out how the Standards and Regulations apply when solicitors use AI and other technology: competence, supervision, confidentiality and verification of output remain the firm's responsibility. Revised 9 February 2026 to address generative AI directly, the page is guidance, not a new rule.

What the document requires

Firms remain responsible for work product regardless of the tool used to produce it.
Output from generative AI must be checked before it is relied on or presented to a court.
Client information must not be entered into tools that do not offer adequate confidentiality protections.
Supervisors must understand how staff are using AI and set appropriate controls.
